What it's about

Join award-winning performer, director, and movement specialist Sam Foster from Shock Therapy Arts for a one-off workshop exploring an ‘outside-in’ approach to character development, where physical choices become the starting point for discovering distinctive characters. You’ll also explore how to switch rapidly and clearly between playing multiple characters by using distinctive physicality. Making physical changes in your body can help an audience instantly recognise who is who — without needing to explain it. And because physicality and comedy make very good friends, Sam will throw some physical comedy into the mix, too. ABOUT YOUR TEACHER Sam Foster is an award-winning actor, director, writer, producer, physical theatre performer, movement director, stunt performer, and workshop facilitator, and the co-founder and Artistic Director of Gold Coast-based Shock Therapy Arts. Across more than 20 years, Sam has worked in theatre, film, television, and large-scale events throughout Australia and internationally. He won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his stunt performance work on Mad Max: Fury Road and the 2015 Matilda Award for Best Director for Shock Therapy Arts’ production of The Pillowman. He has also been nominated twice for a Matilda Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. His extensive physical performance and movement credits include the creative development of King Kong – The Musical, the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, and major events including Woodford Folk Festival and the Asia Cup Opening Ceremony.
